Morning notes

Morning notes tell the people who run a club what changed overnight and what needs their attention today: who joined or left, whose watch stopped sending workouts, who hasn't accepted an invitation, who has no workout plan for the coming days. Every morning Good Coach App checks every athlete in the club, and the AI Assistant writes a short note about it. You find the note at the top of the Morning notes view on the Club management screen, and it also arrives by email at the start of your day.

It is written for the club office, the people who run the club rather than coach: an owner, a manager, an administrator. In a small club where the owner also coaches, it speaks to the owner as the coach.

Who can use it

Morning notes are part of the Club plan. In a club on that plan, the Owner and everyone with the Manage users permission see the Morning notes view and receive the email. Coaches without that permission see neither. Morning notes are free on the Club plan: they don't use AI Assistant credits.

What it reports

Each athlete gets at most one line: their most important situation, with any others shown underneath. The situations the office hears about:

LineWhat it meansWhat the office can do
Left the club / Account deletedThe athlete left, was removed, or deleted their account in the last 7 daysCheck that invoicing ends
Invitation not acceptedSomeone with an account was invited and hasn't accepted. They aren't in the club yet, so no workout plan can be added for themRemind them, or send the invitation again
Account not activated yetAdded by a coach and never logged in. Plans can be added, but the athlete doesn't see themRemind them to log in
Training breakA break of at least 3 days, on now or starting within a weekFor information
Workout sharing turned offWorkouts stopped, and sharing with Good Coach App is turned off in Garmin ConnectAsk whether it was meant
Automatic import turned offWorkouts still arrive but wait to be imported, because automatic import is off in the appAsk the athlete to turn it on
Device disconnectedWorkouts stopped and no device is connected, or its authorization expiredAsk the athlete to connect it again
Neither workout completions nor health information are imported from the watchThe watch stopped sending everythingAsk the athlete to sync the watch in its app
No workout completions imported from the watch, health information arrivesThe connection works, only workouts stopped. It may be deliberateAsk whether they still record with the watch
No workout completions imported from the integrationWorkouts stopped from Strava, Wahoo, ROUVY or similarAsk whether the workouts show in that app
Workout plans are not sent to the watchGarmin is connected without the permission to send workout plansAsk the athlete to connect Garmin again and tick that option
Long inactivityHasn't opened the app for 30 daysCheck membership and billing
No workout plan aheadUses the app but has no workout plan for the coming daysAsk the athlete's coach
No recent app activityHasn't opened the app or written a comment for 7 daysA short, friendly message from the coach
No coach assignedShown next to another line, only in clubs that assign coachesAssign a coach

Some lines hide others they explain. During a training break, for example, a missing plan or a silent watch is expected, so only the break is shown.

Changes, not states

A club often keeps inactive members connected. Listing them every day would bury today's news, so a line appears when a situation begins and leaves the list after 7 days, whether or not it was solved. Invitation not accepted is the exception: it stays for up to 30 days, because until it's accepted the coach can't plan for that person.

Workouts stopping are judged against each athlete's own rhythm: someone who trains daily is noticed after a few days, someone who trains twice a week later. A workout that arrives from a device proves the device works, not that the athlete uses the app, so app activity is counted from visits and comments only.

The morning note

Every morning, once it is past 07:00 in the owner's time zone, the app prepares the day's list and the AI Assistant writes the note. It tells what changed since the previous morning, so it doesn't repeat itself day after day:

  • Greeting and good news: who joined, anniversaries with the club, workout plans the coaches created yesterday, problems solved since yesterday.
  • Competitions: who took part in a competition yesterday, with congratulations.
  • Solved: problems from the previous note that are gone today.
  • Roster changes: who joined, left, or started a training break.
  • Today: the one thing to know, and what stands out across the list.
  • To do: what the office can do itself, each task with every person it concerns. New tasks are explained; tasks still open from earlier mornings get a short reminder.
  • Tip: one practical piece of advice on running a coaching business.

The names come after each sentence. In a club where coaches split the athletes between them, the names are grouped by coach, so you can pass each task to the right person:

Ask whether the workouts show in Garmin Connect – Anna Kowalska: Piotr Nowak, Ewa Lis; Jan Zieliński: Ola Wiśniewska; no coach: Adam Bąk.

An athlete with two coaches is named once, under both of them together ("Anna Kowalska, Jan Zieliński: Ewa Lis"). A coach assigned to almost every athlete, such as an owner who is on everyone's list, doesn't get a group of their own. A club where everyone works with everyone keeps one list of names, and so do anniversaries, which are good news rather than a task to pass on.

How the note is written and checked is described in Morning note in the AI Assistant section.

The Morning notes view

Open Club management from the main menu and pick Morning notes in the view switcher above the list. It is a browser feature. Administrators open on it by default.

  • The note is at the top, folded: click its title to read it. Click a sentence to highlight the athletes it is about in the list below.
  • The list is grouped by coach. An athlete with two coaches appears under both. Athletes without a coach come first.
  • Each row shows the athlete, with a red dot when the line appeared today, the line with its tier (Act now, Follow up or For info), a device that needs attention ("COROS: authorization expired"), and four ages: Observed (the day the line appeared), Last seen in the app, the last device data and the last workout completion. Ages read Today, Yesterday, 3d ago, and in weeks after a month; hover one to see the date.
  • Filters above the list: a coach, New (opened today), Act now, Handled and Snoozed.
  • Once a day. The list and the note are prepared once, in the morning, and stay as they are until the next morning. A problem solved during the day, such as a watch that syncs again at noon, leaves the list the next morning. Handled and Snooze are the exception: they take a line off at once.
  • Solved since… under the list, folded: everything solved since the previous morning, grouped the same way. The note itself names only what it told you about before; this list shows it all.

Handled and snoozed

When you have dealt with a line, take it off the list:

  • Handled: one click. The line leaves the list straight away, and a message at the bottom offers Undo for a few seconds. Mark all handled next to a coach's name handles that coach's whole group.
  • Snooze: pick the day the line should come back (one or two weeks with one click), and add a note if you like. A snooze on an athlete with a training break suggests the day after the break.

What happens next:

  • The line is gone for everyone in the office, not only for you.
  • It stays out of the morning note too, while it is handled or snoozed.
  • A handled line doesn't come back while the situation lasts. If the situation ends and later starts again, it is new and shows again.
  • A snoozed line comes back on the morning of the day you picked, if the situation is still there.
  • To see what was marked, tick Handled or Snoozed above the list. Each marked line shows who marked it and when, the note on hover, and Undo. Undo works at any time, not only right after the click.

The note on a snooze is for the office only. Coaches never see it, and it never reaches the AI Assistant.

The morning email

The same note arrives by email a few minutes after 07:00 in the owner's time zone, to the Owner and everyone with Manage users, each in their own email. It carries the club's email logo and colour if the club has set them.

To stop it, open Preferences, find Notifications settings, and untick Email me the morning note on the club's organisational matters. The choice is yours alone: the other people in the office keep receiving it. The link at the bottom of every morning email takes you straight to that setting.

Replies to the email reach the Good Coach App team, so any comment on the note is welcome.

Privacy

  • Names never reach the AI provider. The AI Assistant works with numbers in place of people, and the app adds the names after each sentence. The only name it receives is that of a public race from the shared race catalog.
  • Nothing personal beyond dates. The list holds dates and day counts only: no health data, no reasons or types of training breaks, no comment text.
  • The note never guesses why an athlete did something, and never says that someone stopped training or quit.
  • The stored lists are deleted after 90 days.

See AI Assistant privacy for how the AI providers handle data.

Common questions

Why isn't an athlete who hasn't trained for months on the list?

Because the list reports changes. The athlete appeared on the morning the situation began and left the list 7 days later. A long-standing state is part of how the club looks, not news.

Why does the note say a problem is solved, when we didn't do anything?

The note only reports that the situation is gone: the workouts arrive again, the invitation was accepted. It never says who solved it, because the app can't know whether it was the office, the coach or the athlete.

Coaches don't see the Morning notes view. Is that right?

Yes. It is for the people who run the club. A coach's own morning review of their athletes is planned separately.

The note arrived in another language than mine.

The note is written in the owner's language, once for the whole club.
